One of the very first things you learn as a teacher is the importance of reflective practice. Working to evaluate and consistently improve your practice, believe in your abilities and never stop growing.
The journey I have been on with anzuk over the past three years has encouraged me to do just that! I have travelled down an unexpected and exciting path and evolved both professionally and personally as an Education Recruitment Consultant.
I’m proud to say I began working with anzuk as a Casual Relief Teacher in 2014 in between leaving a permanent teaching post and heading on a European Adventure of a lifetime. I took it as an opportunity to think about my experiences thus far, entrench myself in a variety of educational settings and hopefully have an epiphany about the path I wanted to take into the future.
I visited the anzuk London office while on my travels in the hope of continuing casual work on the other side of the globe and was immediately curious about internal opportunities to represent anzuk. I knew that I loved education, but didn’t feel completely fulfilled in the classroom. I enjoyed collaborating with colleagues and exploring different learning styles but was looking for an opportunity to diversify my skills and help other teachers find their path.
After an amazing few months, I returned to Melbourne and continued teaching with anzuk. I had some great days at a variety of schools but decided to send an email to CEO Daniel Mundy regarding an internal position. Within a few months, I had my own spot in the office as a Candidate Recruitment Consultant and worked to assist teachers (like myself) to get work in their local area and develop relationships with schools.
Three years on and I have worked as an Education Recruitment Consultant across a few areas and for the last 12 months as a Special Educational Needs consultant. I have never taught in a Special Educational setting, but have learned a whole new dialogue and have an entirely new understanding of this area of education through my relationships with our client schools. I am supported each day by colleagues who are always working hard to put people first and impact learners daily.
Being part of the anzuk family has improved my confidence, communication skills and provided me with a 360-degree experience of education.
As consultants, we are challenged each day to work together, reflect, grow and empower each other to BE GREAT!
