Tin Can Drums

Making your own instruments is a great way to learn how sounds are formed!

You will need:

  • Tin cans
  • Baloons
  • Rubber bands
  • Rice
  • Drum sticks or something similar (we used chopsticks)
  • Coloured card, or something to decorate

Decorate the outside of the cans how you wish and add your rice. Cut the end of your balloon, stretch it over the top of the can and secure it with your rubber bands – now play! You can shake or drum!

A good way to do an alternative is to play around with different can sizes or new objects inside the can – try dried lentils!
